Two Cranes Distinctive Imports took flight in 1998, with a vision to bring the artistry of Southeast Asia abroad to those who appreciate quality handwork. We developed a strong interest in the cultures we encountered while living and traveling in Asia. As such, we have built and nurtured relationships with the families in the villages who create the pieces of art that Two Cranes is honored to import into the States.
In this way, our products are brought from their creators to share the quality and
craftsmanship of the many traditions of their beautiful cultures.
Two Cranes values the commitment of time that the artisans give to make each individual piece,
and pledges to maintain high standards in the items it imports.
We hope you enjoy our products.

About our Products
Thank you for your interest in our hand woven basket ware. Since 1998, Two Cranes has worked directly with craftspeople to design and distribute these special pieces of art from an island in Southeast Asia to discerning owners half a world away. These products are made completely by hand, through a very special process unique to a village in the southeast corner of the island of Bali.
The rattan or ‘ata’ grass is first split thinly to permit the creation a very fine weave. Then the pale colored rattan is wetted so that it is pliable during the weaving process, usually accomplished with a needle to attain the tight weave. After the piece is finished, it is laid out in the sun for a few days until it is completely dry. These pieces can take anywhere from two to four days to weave.
The next step in the process is to put the piece into a brick oven where coconut husks are burned under the products. This cures the product, as well as giving it the beautiful, natural honey brown color. Because no stains, dyes or shellacs are used on these products, they are completely naturally made and are absolutely ‘Green’.
Bali is a beautiful island where the daily routine is a colorful culture of art and music. It seems everyone is an artist in some way, and they are proud of their work. Each village works in a cooperative manner, producing its characteristic craft. We have enjoyed getting to know the families and learning about their village during our years of working together.
